![]() When the girls are asked the same question, they insist that they will wait for the boy to ask them. In fourth grade Sunday school classes, young nine-year-old boys, when asked if they are going to ask the girl to marry them, or wait for a girl to ask them, insist they will do the asking. Even young children intuitively know this. Worldwide, man takes the initiative to ask the woman to marry. Interestingly, this order of Adam first then Eve also provides more evidence of the historicity of the account. God places only one restriction on Adam-do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In Genesis 2, God introduces us to Adam, the Garden of Eden and two trees in the center of the garden–the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Abraham could have easily known the talking snake story. Even today many of us have known a great-grandparent. These long lifespans make it almost like Adam was Abraham’s great-grandfather. This places Abraham just the three long overlapping lifespans from what happened in the Garden of Eden. Now Shem, before the flood lived contemporaneously with Methuselah for almost 100 years, who lived contemporaneously with Adam himself for over 200 years. Interestingly, Abraham was very likely familiar with the details of the flood. Abraham lived contemporaneously with Shem for 150 years and Shem was with his dad Noah on the ark. Consider what Abraham and his generation could have easily known. When you combine ancient man’s intelligence with their longevity-up to 930 years for Adam, you could certainly conclude they must have been up-to-date historians. What we see at the beginning of real history are men who were brilliant. As we look back further, we see they built the megaliths of Stonehenge about 3500 BC and in the farthest distance we see their utterly amazing cave art painted by highly skilled artists. ![]() Evidence of early man show they built the pyramids of Egypt, around 2500 BC. How do we know that they were brilliant? They were either slowly evolving ape-like animals or they were brand spanking new, the finest, most intelligent creatures God could make. To take it all the way back to Adam all we need to do is take the Bible at its word and keep two of its facts in mind, early men were brilliant, and they lived a long time. Modern scholars accept the historicity of Genesis beginning with Abraham around 2000 BC. First, the Israelites have a much more trustworthy historical record than the British. For example, King Lear of Shakespeare fame is a legendary figure from around the eighth century BC.īut yes, it could have actually happened. They have a history, but it is largely legendary. There was too much uncertainty about pre-Roman English history. Winston Churchill in his A History of the English-Speaking Peoples (1956) only begins his history in 55 BC when the Romans under Julius Caesar invaded Britain. Back in 1920, Wells concludes his book with a “Chronological Table” where he only feels comfortable listing precise events back to 800 BC. He also quickly adds, he thinks this is "utter absurdity."īut could it have actually happened? The truth is it is very difficult to know what actually happened in the past. Upon that belief in the Fall as a fact…doctrinal Christianity built itself." "Jesus was not so much a teacher of wonderful new things, as a… blood sacrifice… made in atonement of a particular historical act of disobedience to the Creator committed by our first parents, Adam and Eve, in response to the temptation of a serpent in the Garden of Eden. Here, he accurately explains that for “official Christianity,” But since he believes all ancient origin beliefs are myth, he places the story into a discussion of 19 th century changes in religious thought brought about by Darwinism. Wells, in The Outline of History (1920) agrees about the significance of the talking snake story. It is commonly referred to as “The Fall of Adam.”īiblical skeptic, H. Genesis 3 is the familiar story about a talking snake convincing Adam and Eve to disobey God in the Garden of Eden. Ironically, his explanation is also the key for understanding how things will be made very good again. Now, in Genesis 3, he explains why his creation that was “very good” is now very bad. In Genesis 1, he explains how he built our world utilizing three building blocks –the physical universe, the creature and the human creature. In the Bible, God wastes no time, or words, in providing us what we need to know to understand his world.
